Today’s blog is dedicated to someone very special, my soul sister Yvonne who celebrates her birthday today. I wish with all my heart I could have given you the flowers personally, but I hope these will reach you through angel messengers.
Three years ago I played around with some daises and came up with a series that I called Decluttering (see link below). Since then I got sidetracked with portraiture and life altogether, but I resolved to finally get out of the creative swamp and get the wheels turning again. It’s no secret that time and life experiences will inevitably influence the creative force and this is something tried and tested in my writing, but only after I edited this series did I realise how much my perspectives have changed in photography.
Maybe it’s age, or perhaps it is the quiet contemplative life that I lead now that has me leaning towards minimalism and zen more prominently, but as you saw in the last set of triptychs and quadtychs, my signature look is that of a single subject against a prominent black or monochrome background. I played around a bit with the daisies and came up with two sets.
The Red Plate Series
The Blue Plate
The main idea behind this concept was to feature the daisies without having to create the ubiquitous bouquet. I wanted to dispense of all the leaves and stems, and just zero in on the petals and core. It very much reflects the transformation I am undergoing on a general level and very much in synch with the Reiki and energy healing training that I am taking. Stay tuned for more news on that!
