Sensei Frog One Year Later

Some of you might remember a blog entry from last year when Sensei Frog arrived, ironically, from Germany. Well, he’s been a wonderful guardian of the meditation area and recently also got promoted to still life model! I should have added him to the triptych blog yesterday, just totally forgot about the shots until I stumbled on the set while cleaning up some files.

I normally just shoot with Fujifilm and an iPhone, but these shots were taken with a Nikon D800 and a very wrong long lens, a DSLR clunker that I am so glad I no longer have with me. Except for the shot with the candle, the other two were taken with natural light, being true to my principle.

Here’s to putting November behind us and welcoming December with open arms. Not just the Christmas season, but also the end of what has been a tumultuous year for many, and most definitely for me. But like everything else in life, there is always a silver lining to things, and it should be our constant purpose to chase after it instead of wallowing in the storms. This is what Sensei Frog reminds me of each day – to remain grounded, in the present moment, and not waste time in the past which we cannot change, or constantly worrying about the future which will arrive in good time. He is that daily anchor that guides me to that core energy and lust for life, always unafraid of change and new adventures.

The worst thing we can do to ourselves and our souls is to be complacent and surrender to the status quo. Fight for your dreams, chase those rainbows you always dreamed of, and don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. We reach a certain age where society deems it necessary to slow down and take a back seat in everything. By your 50s you should supposedly be looking forward to spending your days on your favourite recliner and live life in your backyard. Hell no! Mid-50s or 60s is just as good a time as any to start over or start something new. I just discovered make-up tutorial videos, for example, for “mature skin” and I don’t mind admitting that I am testing out different elixirs of youth. I’m not afraid of ageing at all, in fact, I already have, but it doesn’t mean that I have to look like a depressed prune all the time.

Waltz in the rain, do the salsa to the thunder, and simple BE.
