Re-creating Old Hollywood Glamour: Liz Taylor

You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other, and God damn it, you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way.” – Elizabeth Taylor

Here’s why Liz makes a difference in my life: she was a survivor who always managed to pull herself back together and move on. She believed in her own strength, never gave up on love, and had some damn good friends to pull her through the worst of times.

Liz Taylor is all about eyes – and there is no way of replicating those iconic lavender eyes of hers, but we got lucky with the setting sun this evening and Maike’s eyes turned to gold to achieve the Liz Taylor look we were gunning for.

Nothing quite like available light, the brilliance of the setting sun, a light breeze to do the hair styling for us, and a good ladder! It was such a relief not to have to shoot indoors and use a flash for this one! We didn’t have a Richard Burton on hand, and Maike refused to do the Cleopatra eye shadow as vehemently as I refused to find the Cleopatra accessories, so we were clear on that. The rest was the usual “let’s see where this leads us” philosophy.
