Hope, Faith and Gratitude in the Year of the Rat

The rat is probably one of the most misunderstood creatures, vilified by all and sundry for its appearance and supposedly anti-social behaviour. But why judge the rat with human values? What if we try it the other way around, and judge humans from the rats perspective?

First of all, they are highly intelligent, empathetic, and loyal. They may never win a beauty contest, consider this:
– they take care of the sick within their families / colonies
– without companionship they fall into depression
– they express happiness
– can laugh and play
– are very vulnerable to peer pressure
– curious, but shy
sounds better than some humans I know!

In terms of the Chinese Zodiac, the Rat is known for creativity, intelligence, honesty, ambition, and generosity. 2020 is the year of the Metal Rat, so what can we look forward to: it is a year of new beginnings and renewals, a particularly prosperous and auspicious for most Chinese Zodiac signs, the perfect year for growing in terms of career, hobbies, relationships, simply bursting with creative energy. But the caveat here is that the crafty Rat requires careful planning and organisation in order to scurry through the dark tunnels and murky waters. Let us learn from the rat who does not let stench or dirt get in the way of perseverance and loyalty.

When I witnessed the sunrise in the photography above the other morning, I couldn’t think of anything better to do but stop and say a prayer of thanksgiving. In spite of all the challenges and hardships, there is so much to be thankful for – because I never stopped hoping and believing. Even in then darkest moments, when the lesson to be learned was to let go or change course, faith never failed to spark the courage and hope to move forward.

This is the year I take the bull by the horns and say, I am enough! It is my turn to shine.
