The Underrated Art of A Weekend Nap

Ah, the weekend. That magical 48-hour window where we promise ourselves we’ll conquer our to-do lists, deep-clean the entire house, hit the gym, read a book, and maybe even learn French. But let’s be honest—by the time Friday evening rolls around, we’re more exhausted than a phone on 1% battery, desperately searching for a charger. Anyone else? If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it’s to listen to my body before it collapses and takes my mind along with it.

So here’s a wild idea: Instead of treating your weekend like a productivity Olympics, why not embrace the lost art of the weekend nap? Yes, my fellow overachievers, it’s time to channel your inner sloth and let the beauty of stillness restore you. Remember when we were children and our parents forced us to take naps so we could grow and glow? Well, it works for your 40s, 50s, 60s and onwards! We may no longer need to grow physically, but we never stop growing mentally and emotionally, and you can stay out of mischief (or recover from it) if you are taking a nap. Trust me, I speak from vast experience!

Think about it—your phone gets to recharge overnight, so does your tablet, your laptop gets updates, even your car needs to be refueled. So why are you out here running on fumes, treating yourself like an unlimited energy source? (Spoiler #1: You’re not; Spoiler #2: You’re not a machine either) A weekend nap is your personal system reboot.

Ever noticed how everything seems 10 times more dramatic when you’re tired? Studies show (and so does the entire animal kingdom) that a good nap can improve memory, enhance creativity, and boost mood. So technically, taking a nap is a power move, not a lazy one. (Tell your boss I said that.). Between work deadlines, emails, social obligations, and remembering to drink water (seriously, when was the last time you hydrated?), your brain is juggling more than a circus act. A nap is like pressing the reset button on your mental and emotional clutter. A well-timed nap can prevent you from sending that unnecessary passive-aggressive text or making a questionable online purchase at 3 p.m. on a Saturday.

Busy Bee? Be a Sloth for a Change!  Sloths have it figured out. They nap, move at their own pace, and somehow still manage to live fulfilling lives. Be more like the sloth. The world will still be there when you wake up.
