The best gift I can be given, whether it is for my birthday, Christmas or any other holiday, is the gift of time. And this is exactly what Maike gives me every July so we can celebrate the completion of another trip around the sun. The older we both get, the rarer and more precious our time together becomes. To the parents out there reading this who also have children living far away from you, you will understand exactly what I feel. Every time she is in town I have every reason to stop working and spend every possible moment with her. This time, not only did I finally break my six-month drought and finally went down to Lisbon with her, but we also got to catch up on some photography as well. This year we had the added excitement of watching the Euro Cup Semifinals during her visit and it was such a joy to have her beside me instead of just texting back and forth!
The HMU moments (hair and makeup): these are all candid shots taken while she was engrossed with the makeup palette, and I stood quietly to the side and watched.
Then we did some shots that I had planned out in my mind some time ago, not really sure who was going to be my model for them. I couldn’t have chosen a better muse for the set though and here are the results. All taken with natural lighting at dusk:
This set was taken on a different day and time of day and they turned out much better than I planned.
While we lost Cherry on the same day she departed, it was still a celebration of life and new beginnings.
