There are very few things I regret about being a recluse in The Shire, and one of them is not having much variety in terms of subjects for photography. I haven’t left The Shire in several months so that leaves me with nature, nature and nature to photograph, the few times I actually take the camera for a walk.
I always promised myself I would never become a floral photographer but like many other photography adventures over the years, if I delve into something I endeavour to find my signature look. You’ve seen the Spring series, and now, on the threshold of Summer, I bring you a new collection. The first two sets are from my garden but the last set are from the neighbour’s:
The Nile Lilies
The Peace Lilies
Abundance in Hydrangeas
As you can see, the unfolding drama of the flower is that fascinates me more than anything. For some sets I had to wait a bit in-between shots for the next stage, with others I got lucky and the plant offered the flowers in different stages.
The prolonged winter and strange springtime up here in the Shire have finally moved on and there are hints of the famed Portuguese summer around the corner. Welcome though they were, the unexpected rains of last week have finally stopped and it is a relief to see blue skies and sunshine for a change. That’s the beauty of nature, it always has a gentle but poignant reminder that no matter what storms are passing through your life at the moment, they are temporary.
